Honeybee Robotics has developed an innovative technology that allows the passage of current (single or multi-channel) through a continuously spinning device.

Called a Brushless Slip Ring or a Rolling Contact Connector, this device allows transmission of electrical power and signal through a continuously rotating joint (bi-directional) with minimal wear, low noise, and reduced particle generation. The device transmits DC/AC power or signals via rolling contacts, instead of the sliding contacts employed by conventional slip ring brushes, resulting in less wear, noise, and particle generation, as well as an increased product lifetime. Wide band surfaces, as opposed to the flexure corners of existing roll ring systems, provide a higher current density and larger contact area.

This technology is being employed in a lightning protection project with the Air Force Research Lab.
