Solar Hinge
Honeybee Robotics has developed two technologies for commercial spaceflight.
We engineered, assembled, and delivered eight flight-ready solar array hinges for use on Aero Astro’s STPSat-1.
We also worked with Bigelow Aerospace to develop a preliminary design for a solar array deployment mechanism that would be used on the solar arrays of their Genesis inflatable space habitat. The plan called for multiple panels to be stowed in compact accordion-style during launch. After launch, a motor at the base of each array would drive the system into its deployed position. Honeybee has completed a preliminary design for both motor- and spring-driven deployment mechanisms.
