Bench-top SCARA positioner with large handling capacity

scara Honeybee Robotics developed a miniature 3-axis manipulator for positioning a 25-lb device at high rates of speed and minimal trajectory tracking error. The positioner and its controller were developed under contract to NASA in support of the MAKER/EBF3 project. Electron Beam Free Form Fabrication (EBF3) is an additive machining process being investigated by NASA for fabrication of spare parts on the International Space Station and ultimately the Moon. By providing the miniaturized positioner for the EBF3 head, Honeybee enabled NASA to demonstrate this promising technology on a bench-top scale.
