Enabling robotic systems in environments up to 460˚C

Originally developed for a Venus surface mission, our high-temperature motor with commutation (position) feedback enables operation in the most harsh environments. No off-the-shelf motors exist that are capable of operating reliably at temperatures even approaching 460°C for any appreciable amount of time. Honeybee Robotics has demonstrated operation of our brushless permanent-magnet motor with a proprietary commutation sensor at temperatures exceeding 460°C.

Potential applications include:

  • Pumps and valves. Liquid metal cooling systems, material lifting from oil and enhanced geothermal wellbores, and turbine fuel and steam control
  • Gimbals. Expendable launch vehicle engines and components of spacecraft that orbit close to the Sun or Mercury
  • Starters and generators. Gas turbine aircraft engines
  • Robotic exploration systems. Operate in and around terrestrial volcanoes and deep ocean hydrothermal vents
