A new solution for rotary electrical transfer
Honeybee’s patented Rolling Contact Connector or RCC (US Pat. 5501604, 5829986, 7215045) is a brushless slip ring that allows for the transfer of high power across a continuously rotating joint with less parasitic torque and longer life than traditional solutions. Using flexible conductive rings, the RCC eliminates sliding contact and thus minimizes frictional heat and particulate generation. The RCC technology is highly scalable; it can be applied to compact units to meet high current-carrying requirements, or to large-scale units to minimize parasitic torque loss.
- High Current Carrying Capacity. We have tested our prototypes to 30 amps per channel, however much greater capacity (hundreds of amps) is possible with modified designs.
- Low Parasitic Torque. The rolling contacts allow for extremely low parasitic torques. Unlike traditional brushed slip rings or twist capsules, adding current carrying capacity will not cause a large increase in parasitic torque.
- Low Noise. Our 6-channel unit has a maximum noise of 3μV/mA, enabling data transmission rates of up to 2MHz.
- Long Life. Life tests have been conducted to more than 16 million revolutions with no reduction in electrical performance or visible wear on conductive surfaces. Thermal-vacuum qualification testing has been completed.
